In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing my normal morning routine for most of my weekdays. I was homeschooled for about seven years of my life, so during that time, I would usually get up between ten and eleven and go to bed around midnight. Over the past year-and-a-half since I started “normal” school that has definitely changed. Now, I try to get up around five and go to sleep at nine.
I actually really enjoy getting up early, though. It’s an opportunity to have some time to yourself before everyone else wakes up. It’s usually still dark, and you can do whatever you’d like — read, make breakfast, take a shower, spend time with God . . . it’s pretty awesome in my opinion. The only hard part is waking up!
(This is a gorgeous sunrise we saw at my house one morning!)
First, my alarm goes off. I actually have two. One is my phone, which is next to my bed, and another is my old-fashioned, super annoying alarm clock which is on the other side of the room. This way I have to actually climb out of bed to turn it off.
Next, I make my bed. It’s sometimes hard for me to motivate myself to do this, but I think it’s worth it, because it makes my room look so much nicer.
Then I’ll either take a shower if it’s a day where I need one or I’ll check my phone. Usually, I would check social media, but I’m fasting it for Lent, so right now that just consists of checking my texts and productivity apps.
This is when I start getting ready. I pick out my outfit for the day, brush my teeth, wash my face, do my hair and makeup, etc.
After I’m all ready, I head downstairs to make myself a cup of coffee. I usually choose the smallest option on the coffee maker, and I just drink it black. (I used to drink it with lots of creamer, but I’m trying to cut down on sugar a bit.)
While I’m sipping my coffee, I make myself and my family breakfast. It varies from day to day depending on what we have in the kitchen, but some of my go-to breakfasts are fried eggs, scrambled eggs, smoothies, bagels, and toast.
I eat my breakfast at the dining room table and usually talk to my family for the first time that morning since this is when most of them wake up.
After I finish breakfast, I clean up the kitchen and then head back upstairs to my room. This is when I look at my planner and see what’s on the agenda for that day. I like to plan my day (dinner, to-do list, homework) the night before so I can see what I need to accomplish at a glance. If you guys want to see how I plan more in-depth, I could do a post on that sometime if you guys are interested! 🙂
Based on my list and what I managed to get done the previous evening, I’ll use the last 30 minutes before we have to leave to do homework, do some chores, or if I have nothing else to do, I’ll read some of a book.
We leave for school around seven, and then my real day begins!
I hope you guys enjoyed seeing my basic morning routine! Obviously, this isn’t how it is every morning. Sometimes I wake up at 6:45 because I slept through my alarm and I have 15 minutes to get ready, lol. 🙃 But generally, my goal is to wake up at five and have lots of time in order to start the day off on the right foot.
Are you a morning bird or a night owl? What time do you usually wake up?
Thanks for reading!
