It’s been a pretty crazy month, hasn’t it? With the COVID-19 outbreak and stay-at-home orders, schools being cancelled, and stores being shut down, it’s pretty hard for people.
I think it definitely is good in a way, though. It provides time to relax and take a break from the business. When we come back to school or work, we’ll enjoy it a little more because of the long break. It teaches us to rely on God more, too. We aren’t in control, but He is, and He knows what He’s doing.
Anyway, this is what I’ve been doing with my free time this month! 🙂
I finally finished The Count of Monte Cristo!! Hooray! I gave it 4/5 stars. A solid read, a good if slightly disturbing story that was ingeniously planned by the author and neatly wrapped up at the very end. I would recommend, if you have the patience for it!
After that monster of a book was done, I quickly read a MG grade book that I’ve had on my shelf for awhile — The Many Reflections of Miss Jane Deming. It’s a historical fiction book telling the story of a girl who is adjusting to her new life in Washington Territory a couple of years after the Civil War ended. I gave it 3.5/5 stars. I liked the second half of the book but was bored by the first.
I haven’t been listening to much music recently at all. I’ve been trying to unplug more and be more comfortable with my own thoughts, so I’ve basically stopped using Spotify for the time being.
The only thing I really listen to is my, like, one CD, which is NEEDTOBREATHE’s Hard Love album. They have some major bops on there, I’ve got to admit. Hard Love, of course, is one of my favorites. I also really like Money & Fame. And I think we can all relate a bit to Let’s Stay Home Tonight right now. 😉
I’m still plugging away at Star Trek: TNG, plus I’ve got some movies I watched this month, as well.
First, I saw Shane, the classic Western from 1953. It’s my grandpa’s favorite movie, so I watched it with him. I really enjoyed it! It had a pretty basic plot, but it was a fun ride.
I also watched Frozen II with my sister. When the first movie came out, I was obsessed with it. (I was very little.) It was very nostalgic to see all the characters again. I thought it was cute but not as good as the first one. I really enjoyed the music and character interactions, though!
I had a lot of time to do cooking and baking this month, which made me super happy!! Here are some of my favorites:
I made strawberry jam muffins from a 1960’s cookbook. They were DELICIOUS. I wished I had made more!
I also made some corn flake and potato breakfast casserole. This is usually a Christmas morning tradition for our family, but I decided to make it as a treat since it was the first week of quarantine. I used this recipe and it turned out great!
And here is the prep work for a green bean stir fry I made one night. No meat, just fresh veg. It was surprisingly good!
It’s week three of quarantine. My sister and I have been taking a lot of walks to get out of the house.
One day, we were all going stir-crazy, so my family drove to the nearest town just to get fast food. We spent a few hours just driving around and sitting in the car eating food. We all did our makeup and everything, and we didn’t even go inside a building. 😂 I got a burger from Wendy’s and this frozen matcha latte from Dunkin’. (I wasn’t a big fan. I thought it tasted a little like grass . . . but maybe that’s just me . . .)
Otherwise, remote learning has been keeping me pretty busy. When I’m not doing school, I’ll probably be watching TV, playing video games, reading a book, or cooking up something to eat. Not a super exciting month, but that’s okay!
GOALS LAST MONTH
Finish The Count of Monte Cristo— Completed!! Finally!!!
- Re-decorate my room — This didn’t happen, but that’s okay, because most stores are closed anyway. I’ll get around to it someday. 😉
Read my Bible every day and stick with my Lent fasting— I mostly stuck to this. I definitely didn’t go on any social media, but there were a handful of days where I didn’t read my Bible. I have been really trying, though. 🙂 I only have about two more weeks! It’s pretty crazy. It feels like it hasn’t been that long. Try something new— I’ve definitely tried some new things with all the time on my hands!
GOALS FOR APRIL
- Re-read the Narnia series — I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve re-read the whole series. I’m also very behind on my Goodreads reading challenge, so, since the books are short and yet deeply profound and some of the best literature I’ve ever read, they’ll be a good choice to get me back on track!
- Keep on keeping on with Lent — My last two weeks are during April, and then Lent will be over! I really want to stick with this during the final stretch!
And those are my only two goals this month. I think allowing myself to relax and go with the flow will be better during these pretty scary times.
And there we have it! My March 2020 wrap-up post!
This was a long post talking about me. How are you guys doing? What have you been doing to fill up your time during quarantine? How was your month? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for reading, everyone!
