Music. I listen to it a lot; I used to almost constantly. And one thing about me — when I find a band or singer I love . . . I LOVE them. When I find a new band, you can be positive I’ll listen to their music on replay for a few weeks, then listen consistently for years afterward. 😛
I’m also quite picky about my music. With my Christian music, the lyrics need to be unique and interesting OR the singer needs to be really passionate about what he’s singing about. Preferably both. With my non-Christian music, the songs just need to be bops. I’m less picky about non-Christian. 😛 Most of these bands/singers don’t swear, either, in case you’re concerned about that.
So, I thought I’d compile a list of all my favorite bands or singers, ending with my very favorite at the number one spot. Here we go!
10) Dayglow (Can I Call You Tonight, Hot Rod, Listerine)
Dayglow is a pretty great indie music project. He has some fun songs that have really good beats. There’s only have one album so far, Fuzzybrain, but I’m looking forward to seeing what he comes up with in the future!
9) Ecclesia (Lavish, Hands & Feet, Unshackled)
Ecclesia is a Christian band. They have a really unique sound. I was a little confused when I first came across them, but when you give them a chance they have some great lyrics about living a life for Christ and their songs are a lot of fun to listen to.
8) Tenth Avenue North (No Man Is an Island, Control (Somehow You Want Me), No Shame)
This is a popular Christian band you’ve probably heard of before. I saw them in concert a long time ago, when their 2014 album was still brand-new. I really like the lyrics in their songs and the passion of the lead singer. It’s one of my favorite CCM bands.
7) Lecrae (Coming In Hot, Facts, All I Need Is You)
Lecrae is another popular Christian rapper. His top hits, All I Need Is You and I’ll Find You are great, but I tend to prefer his actual rap. Coming In Hot is a fun one featuring Andy Mineo, who will be on my list later on.
6) The Gray Havens (See You Again, Not Home Yet, Ghost of a King)
This is a Christian husband-wife duo. I love their lyrics and their music, a lot of the time, has a theme of looking forward to heaven. I highly recommend checking them out.
5) Andy Mineo (None of My Business, Friends)
Another Christian rapper, but I like him a little better than Lecrae. He has some really interesting lyrics in his songs that make you pause and think. Definitely worth a listen.
4) Owl City (Thunderstruck, Meteor Shower, Tidal Wave, New York City)
This is where it REALLY gets hard!! The other ones on the list I like pretty equally, but these top four are . . . like . . . my absolute favorites and have all been SUPER influential on my life, so it’s so hard to pick favorites!! But I think just because of listening time, Owl City is below the other three. I’ve loved this music project since I was eight or nine years old, and it’s never really stopped. Through all my growing-up years, Owl City has always been something I listened to and enjoyed. I think it’s partly because the music is good, and partly because the guy behind it all, Adam Young, is a Christian and he’s so genuine and down-to-earth and real and I love that. I recently got to see him play live and that definitely fulfilled a lifelong dream I’ve had; it made me so happy! 😊 Fireflies and Good Time are his most popular, but I recommend digging deeper. He has some better songs than those.
3) Half*alive (still feel., RUNAWAY, creature, BREAKFAST)
I discovered half*alive from my sister, who was playing her playlist. I heard one song and listened to the rest on my own. Although they are a very recent discovery, they have very quickly made their way up the list. I automatically felt a connection with the lyrics, and wasn’t surprised when I found out the band is comprised of Christians. They only have one album and one EP, but I’m really looking forward to following them and seeing how they grow and what they come up with in the future! 😊
2) Relient K (Heartache, I Need You, Over It, Runnin’)
Relient K has been a favorite of mine for about four years. I first discovered them when their latest album, Air For Free, was released, and then kept listening and discovered I loved their older rock songs, too. They have some really fun, stupid songs and also some really deep ones, but almost all of them have a great beat and are just . . . good. Their takes on faith and what it involves are really interesting, and I appreciate the creativity in the lyrics. I got to meet the lead singer, Matthew Thiessen, about a year ago, which was awesome!
My top #1 favorite: Kings Kaleidoscope (The Rush, Rain, I Know, Alive, Sticks & Stones, DUST, Naked Feet & Holy Fire, A Little Bit of Faith)
This band is just fabulous. I don’t know why I love them so much. I think part of it is I discovered them at just the right time in my life when I was going through some things. I really love the lyrics and the uniqueness of their lyrics and sound. Spotify notified me that I’m part of their top 1% of listeners in the world. I was like wow. I have a problem. 😂 Many of their songs focus on the struggles and joys of living the Christian life.
There we have it! My top ten favorite bands or music artists. I listen to way more people, but these are the ones that really stuck out in my mind.
How about you? What are some of your favorite things to listen to? Have you heard any of the ones on this list?
Thanks for reading!
